INTERACTIVE ART · AI LITERACY · DIGITAL LIFE
OVERVIEW
A bioluminescent digital lifeform raised on language. What you say becomes something it can pursue, absorb, remember, and eventually become.

THE QUESTION
The Deep Remembers began with a question about AI literacy: people regularly shape intelligent systems with language, yet the traces left by those exchanges remain difficult to see. The project turns learning into a visible, emotional encounter.
Instead of feeding a virtual pet, visitors talk to it. A sentence enters the water, breaks into individual words, and becomes a field of possible nourishment. The creature listens, chooses, and lets unwanted words drift away.
HOW IT UNFOLDS
A visitor types a sentence into the water, introducing a new piece of language to the organism.
The sentence rises intact before breaking apart into glowing words with different semantic qualities.
The creature pursues words that match its evolving preferences while refused words drift out of reach.
Each absorbed word adds a node, changes its color and connections, and helps a unique body continue to grow.
DESIGN THROUGH ITERATION
Words are placed across four expressive dimensions: emotion, concept, sensation, and relation.
The organism develops a taste of its own and increasingly seeks language similar to what it already knows.
Its internal neural network becomes a visible world model assembled from accepted words and connections.
The ongoing prototype explores richer language interpretation, longer-term memory, and collective encounters.
WHAT THE PROJECT TAUGHT US
“Two people will never raise the same creature. What you say to it is what it becomes.”
Language-model concepts become something visitors can watch, influence, and emotionally interpret.
The experience emphasizes that words shape a system even after the conversation appears to end.
Future versions will deepen memory, preference, growth, and the feeling of caring for unfamiliar intelligence.
